An Iranian Rocket Won't Destroy Osnat's Dream of Making Films
What's happening?
Osnat's Story — this is the classic tale of a lone Israeli female soldier. She made aliyah, studied abroad, came specifically for the army, served in the engineering troops, and finished her service as an explosives instructor. After the army, she was preparing for university admission while working part-time in a café — the Israeli classic: almost every second girl follows this path, slowly building her everyday life and gradually moving toward fulfilling her dream. Osnat's lifelong dream was to make films. That's why every single shekel she earned went toward buying expensive modern equipment. Osnat was ready to give up fashionable clothes or new cosmetics — but never cinema.
An Iranian rocket struck the most precious thing the girl had. In the apartment, literally nothing was left intact — furniture torn apart, documents destroyed — but the most important loss was the hard-earned filming equipment that took the direct hit.
Now Osnat has been temporarily placed in a hotel; the situation with state compensation is unclear even on paper, let alone in practice. The girl needs to rent a new apartment — again deposits, checks, bank guarantees. She needs to rebuild her life. She needs to start saving again for her dream. The shockwave has thrown her back several years. This is incredibly hard — especially when you're in the country alone.
But — can anyone really stay alone in Israel? Yes, Osnat doesn't have parents or a dozen siblings nearby, but she has all of us. If we all come together and find 50 or 100 shekels in our budgets, restoring the girl's life will become much easier. And in a few years, we will be able to enjoy masterpieces of Israeli cinema made by her hands.
War destroys not just homes.
War tries to take away people's dreams and futures.
And then that future has to be rebuilt — together.
